MARAC Announcements

Welcome to MARAC

Deb SchiffSince 1972, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) has been a vibrant and inclusive professional membership organization supporting archivists, archives workers, librarians, curators, cultural heritage volunteers, and others who preserve and make accessible historical collections. Our region comprises caucuses in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. We also support members from outside the region who enjoy our resources, both in-person and online.

Our key offerings to our members are:

  1. Practical and affordable archival education through our conferences, workshops, and other opportunities. Innovative presentations, hands-on experiences, and lively discussions are just the beginning of the benefits of membership.
  2. Networking opportunities with colleagues and other leaders in the field locally in our caucuses or regionally during our conferences and other events. At its heart, MARAC is a warm and friendly organization where professional colleagues become lifelong friends.
  3. Mentorship for those just entering the field, as well as professionals entering a new phase of their career. MARAC Mentors guide from their own experience in a kind and supportive atmosphere.
  4. Advocacy for archives and other cultural heritage institutions, especially the people who support them. We also provide funding and assistance to those organizations that have experienced a disaster.
  5. Scholarships and awards. Not only do we offer scholarships to help pay for the costs of MARAC conferences, we also offer educational and professional development scholarships. Additionally, we reward professional achievements such as published works and finding aids with our prestigious awards.
  6. Opportunities for service to the profession. People seeking tenure or those who just wish to join in and help have many opportunities to serve MARAC.

Sincerely,
